First known as Azazil, Iblis is a powerful djinn. Before the Diaspora (See Diaspora), God was well pleased with Iblis and raised him up to Jannah where he learned from became a teacher to the angels. When God commanded that Iblis kneel before man, the djinn refuse. He was cast out of Jannah for his disobedience and was called Shaytan (Correlates to Christian Satan). The Quran attributes the temptation of Adam and Eve to Iblis. According to the Quran, Iblis does have a chance at redemption.
